Drug-related infectious diseases

The tables in this section deal with prevalence of infectious diseases - specifically, HIV, HCV and HBV - amongst injecting drug users and with new notifications of these diseases amongst drug users.

Tables IDisease-1 to IDisease-3 are summary tables by country of the latest results held at EMCDDA, for HIV, HCV and HBV infections, showing the numbers of tests made and the percentage infected, the broader aspects of the study setting, and references to the original reports listed in the section's biblography, Table IDisease-0. Fuller tables on which these summaries are based can be found in the statistical bulletin annex.

  • Table IDisease-1. Prevalence of HIV infection among injecting drug users - summary table
  • Table IDisease-2. Prevalence of HCV infection among injecting drug users - summary table
  • Table IDisease-3. Prevalence of markers for HBV infection among injecting drug users - summary table
Tables IDisease-4 to IDisease-6 report information on HIV, HCV and HBV respectively, giving medium-term historical data on the number of infected cases. Table IDisease-4 gives additionally the rate per million population for HIV infection and Tables IDisease-5 and IDisease-6 give the IDU percentage among those with known risk factor.
  • Table IDisease-4. HIV infections newly diagnosed in injecting drug users, by year of report from 1991 to 2002, (a) cases per million population and (b) number of cases
  • Table IDisease-5. Notified cases of hepatitis C infection among injecting drug users: number of IDUs and percentage of IDUs amongst all cases with known risk factor
  • Table IDisease-6. Notified cases of hepatitis B infection among injecting drug users: number of IDUs and percentage of IDUs amongst all cases with known risk factor
A small number of countries report incidence data for HCV from follow-up studies of IDUs at a city level. Table IDisease-7 reports the number of IDUs followed, the number of sero-conversions, follow-up time, the incidence rate per 100 person-years and a reference to the source study in the section's bibliography, Table IDisease-0.
  • Table IDisease-7. Incidence of hepatitis C virus antibody among injecting drug users

Bibliographies

The following table provides a bibliography for the reports of the studies whose results are listed in other tables in this section. Part (i) deals with references for the estimated prevalence results, and Part (ii) for the notifications reports.
